Musical Chair

Since I cleaned out the garage and had lots of people come stock up on free furniture, I am finding things I totally forgot that I had!

I picked this little chair up for three dollars at a garage sale months ago. I decided to do something a little different than paint this time around.

I’m currently on a sheet music kick and my favorite aunt gave me a stack of it when I visited her last weekend for her surprise 70th birthday party! It is really old sheet music (some from the 20’s) that belonged to her father-in-law who played the banjo.

Chair+Sheet Music= Musical Chair!

🙂  Why not???

Here is the chair before:

I mod podged the sheet music all over it and left it to dry overnight. Today I lightly sanded it with a fine/medium sanding block to get rid of any rough edges of paper and to smooth the seams between the pieces. There were some white spots where I couldn’t get the music in the tiny spaces so I took a distress ink pad in “old paper” and a foam brush and inked around the edges and white spaces.

Here she is now…

This musical chair makes me wanna sing!

  18. That is so cute. I did the same thing with a chair using dictionary pages then I stenciled READ on the seat of it. It was the first thing that sold in the show.

Fab u lous! Those chairs were very popular in the 40’s and 50’s in Massachusetts. Every one I knew had a set like that, painted white. Beautiful job with the Mod Podge.

Just found your blog yesterday…LOVE IT! 🙂

Question about your chair (which is just stinkin cute by the way): did you put a poly over it when done?

Thanks for sharing your terrific blog with us all…so inspirational!

    • Hi Steph, Thanks a bunch! I didn’t poly the chair because I didn’t want the sheet music to yellow any further. Also, this is purely a decorative chair in a corner so it won’t get any wear and tear. Hope that helps. Take care!
