$1 Art Table
The selection at Goodwill and Salvation Army has been minimal lately. When there’s nothing to choose from, I tend to take a closer look at the rejects. 🙂
I spotted this table today. Definitely a reject in my book. Judging by the number of markdowns, I’m not the only one!
For some reason today, I looked at it through different eyes. Instead of my usual thinking “no way in heck would I ever have that thing in my home,” I thought “hey that is a really sturdy table that is just the right size for a kids art table.”
I checked out the price and the many reductions. $5.99 to $3.99 to $2.00 to ONE DOLLAR!
That made my mind up for me. Surely I could risk a dollar and have a little fun creating with this one!
I formulated my plan in the car on the way home. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this piece. Man, I love it when that happens!
I went home and gathered some of my favorite coordinating scrapbook papers by American Crafts.
I cut lots of scrapbook paper triangles and began arranging them on the table top.
Just look at those yummy colors and patterns!
I gave the table a couple of coats of Kilz 2 Latex primer. This stuff goes on like buttah and dries super-quick!
Next I gave the table two coats of Aegean Blue by Martha Stewart (sample pot, of course). 😉
Now anyone who reads this blog knows that I’ve never met a shade of blue that I didn’t like. But this shade is just dreamy. It’s like a summer sky.
Once the Aegean Blue paint dried, I arranged the scrapbook paper triangles to create bunting around the edges and used Mod Podge to adhere them. An added bonus is that the bunting is strategically placed to cover some of the boo-boos on the table top.
I sealed it with Rust-oleum Painter’s Touch Clear Gloss to protect the paper bunting.
Here is the finished table.
One of the most satisfying things in the world to me is to take an ugly, rejected piece of furniture and turn it into something beautiful and useful.
I think it’s happy, bright and fun. It makes me want to sit and color.
Oh yeah, and it cost one dollar. Cuh-razy.
Excellent project! Cutie pie table!
