dresser reveal
So after showing you the magic hole-filling product yesterday, I left you hanging.
You ready for the “after?” I know, it usually comes last but I feel like mixing it up today!
Here’s a quick re-cap .
$39.99 Salvation Army Dresser from my garage.
Removed hardware, filled holes with this magic hole filler! As you can see in the after photo, there isn’t any visible evidence that the holes have been patched. This product is the bomb!
Sanded and stained the top with MinWax Dark Walnut…I know they make other shades but I love this one so I use it on just about any piece that is stained.
Primed and painted the body of the dresser with Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White.
Drilled some holes so that I could add the new pulls and knobs. The hardware looks black, but it is actually an antique brass finish.
I think it looks fresh and much more current. I was planning on selling this one but I think it’s a keeper. 🙂
Edited to say, it’s sold. One of my bestest customers bought it based on the sneak peek photo.

I’m off the the eye doctor because the only “perfect” part of my body (my vision) is not what it used to be. Apparently that has gone downhill like everything else after hitting the big 4-0.
Oh, how I mercilessly teased my mother for having to pull everything three feet away from her eyes when she read. I told her she needed longer arms. My 20-something self thought it was hilarious.
My forty-something self??? Um…not so much. 🙂

I did the same thing with my mother when she started reading labels from a distance of 4 feet ….man Im getting pay back now. I just went and got new glasses for the exact same reaon. And dont worry Ive already apologised to my mother!

So it’s google chrome that is the issue in trying to leave a comment here. I am able to leave a comment using IE. Maybe you could look at the faq in wordpress to see if there is a work around; I’m sure there are others that are experiencing the same problem, but just haven’t said anything (’cause they can’t ha ha).

Got a question…have you painted / transformed any of those French Provincial little girl’s dressers or desks? We had some passed down to us and it just isn’t working. What do you suggest?
PS…I breathed a sigh of relief that I passed my eye exam this year, although, the doctor did say a pair of dime-store ‘readers’ might be in my near future. Good luck today. Happy Wednesday! 🙂
Larri, I would be sure to use a good primer and then paint as normal. What have you tried?

Do you consider KILZ a good primer? Should I roll it, brush it, or spray it?
I love Kilz. You can use Kilz spray primer. It leaves a bit of a rough texture. Sand it with a fine grit sponge sander by hand. And then wipe off all of the residue with a damp paper towel or tack cloth. I always roll furniture. Use good quality roller for a smooth finish. Ditto for good quality paint. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I love this piece! I am new to your site and can’t get enough. My husband and I just bought a house and are planning on refinishing some of our furniture for the new place. I’ve never tried before, so it makes me a little nervous.
What type of sander do you use? & what grit? Also, do you use spray paint or paint by hand? I see so many different options but don’t know which is best. I’m also not sure when to prime or when to skip it.

Love it! That fix-it stick sounds great – could you use it to repair places where wood has chipped away on the top or back of a piece too to even things up?
Absolutely. The lady at Home Depot that helped me said she used it to repair a broken sculpture with a huge chunk missing!
