bathroom demolition…day one

Archie and Edith Bunker called. They want their bathroom back.

My boys’ bathroom is stuck in a time warp. It’s bad. Really bad.

White formica with gold flecks…check.

Carpet on the floor…check.

Ugly florescent lights flanking the mirror…check.

Pukey brown painted cabinetry…double check.

Grannyish floral wallpaper…check.

Tiny toilet made for lilliputians…check.

Not-quite-white dingy trim work…check.

Scary ancient wiring…om goodness…check. I like “vintage” things…but not wiring!

My parents-in-law are here visiting and my father-in-law is as handy as a pocket on a shirt! He has been a busy bee replacing toilets, vanities, sinks, fixtures, etc.

I’ve been assisting…(handing him tools and pointing the flashlight.)  🙂

Here are a couple of shots of demolition day.

Tomorrow…sand, prime, paint, install pedestal sink, install flooring, hang sconces and mirror, hang new blinds, and hang towel racks and toilet paper holder.

It’s gonna be bee-you-tee-ful!

Hopefully I’ll have “after” photos to share with you soon.

  2. Your wiring looks like the wiring we have in our home. Is your electrical wrapped in cloth? Be careful that stuff can be scary to work with. We found out the hard way that Black is hot and white is neutral. It’s also very brittle! Go figure! With you decorating skills I know the bathroom will be gor.geous!

  3. Can’t wait to see the after pictures! My house is close to 20 years old if not older and have two seriously outdated bathrooms! Maybe i can get some ideas from you!! We have started updating the master, but not quite all the way there!

  5. Can’t wait to see the reveal. What year was your house built? We had identical wiring in our home which was built in 1904. Thank goodness my husband is handy and completely rewired the entire house! You can follow our transformations here:
