a tour of my new studio
I loved the way the Surveyor’s cabinet turned out SO much, that I designed my studio around it.
Let me back up a bit. Plan A was to work out of our garage/barn but I found out the hard way that it is too damp and quickly warps furniture. Plan B was to use the unfinished basement. But I have a thing about basements. It’s not that I’m scared of them…it’s just that being subterranean is not how I roll! Plan C arrived after I had my DUH moment. (Oprah has A-HA moments, but I refer to mine as DUH moments.) We have a guest cottage that sits empty 99.9% of the time. It’s heated and has lots of windows and gets beautiful light. It doesn’t matter if it’s raining, snowing, sleeting, windy, ya da, ya da. I can paint/create any time I want to!
Once the “where” was decided, I started pulling things together. Most of what I used, I already had on hand (that’s the beauty of being a hoarder collector). I did pick up a few accessories from my favorite shops, Tattered Tiques and Steeplechase Antiques. I chose a neutral palette of whites, creams, greys, browns, and touches of black. I love the juxtaposition between feminine and industrial elements, dark and light, and vintage and new. To me, it creates depth and interest.
Once it was finished, I snapped a few photos (see what I mean about the gorgeous light in there?) and couldn’t wait to share it with ya!
I hope you enjoyed the tour of my studio.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Wow, nuff said!
I will be moving in right after the first of the year! 🙂
All I can say is, Oh, Wow!
SHUT TO THE UP! If I had a guest house, I would fake a grocery run. I would hide there with a bottle of wine, and blog my little heart out!
I love every inch of this!

Okay, I am packing my bags and moving in! This is wonderful and looks like it belongs in a magazine. Great room, great furniture and accessories, oh, my! I see you got the new PB lamp. I saw it the other day and absolutely love it, but don’t understand why they did the cord that way. Oh, if I had a room like this I would be creating away. Thanks for sharing this at Wow.
Thanks, Kim! So agree about that dumb cord. They had it marked down at my PB so that enticed me, plus I loved the lamp enough to overlook it!
Absolutely beautiful!! I love your studio!! Sharing this on FB- thanks for sharing at Feathered Nest Friday! 🙂
FABULOUS! I love every item you’ve used to decorate this space/cottage workshop. Cute sofa…did you purchase or have the slipcover made for one you already had? It is the perfect size for your room; and the added vintage wicker chairs….oh, my!
Hi there Cheryl! The loveseat and wicker chairs came from IKEA!
No!! Really?? The wicker chairs, too? Okay, now I have to drive down to the San Diego IKEA. Enjoyed viewing your studio redesign; mentioned your blog to my ladies at Romantic Homes magazine. Let me know if you hear from RH 🙂
OM goodness. I love that magazine! Thanks a bunch!
I had a guest house at our last home. We LOVED it! However, mine looked nowhere near as gorgeous as yours. Beautiful!
Gorgeous! So many things to love about it!
Love all those wonderful industrial elements. You’re so lucky to have your very own workspace set aside just for you. It’s quite large too! Thanks for sharing your creative talent.
Wow! I love your studio. Who would not be inspired to create in such a lovely space.
Blessings, Audrey

I love the color of the walls in your studio. What color is it, may I ask?
Hi Stacey, I’m not sure because it was that color when we moved in. If I had to guess, I’d say Linen White.
Love this space…you need to come help me do mine!
What a great studio~! You have lovely style and this place rocks!
Your studio is so wonderful! I don’t think I’d want to leave. And the surveyers cabinet…oh my goodness that must have been a lot of work, but it is beyond fabulous!! Girl, you work fast! I can’t believe how much you’ve gotten done. I just love everything you do in your home!
I adore your guest house/studio and almost green-eyed with envy. You have really worked your magic with your creativity! Everything is perfect.

You are featured today at Potpourri Friday!
Oh I bet you are having so much fun in there! Thank you so much for linking up.
Extremely nice! I love the color scheme.
It’s beautiful. I’m green with envy. I’ve outgrown my home office and the piles of disorganization are giving me ulcers. The flat/vertical file cabinet is a work of art. It looks vintage.
Lucky You! I love this wonderful space you have created…so many terrific ideas! It is very stylish, yet, comfortably cozy–and the natural light, you have it all! Thanks for sharing on FB. You have inspired me to tackle my home office. Blessings!
