the formula for setting a pretty table

My love for setting pretty tables began in high school. I worked at a fine jewelry store that carried china, crystal, and flatware. Part of my job was to create tablescapes and window displays with the merchandise. To me, it was more “play” than work. I never grew tired of it.

Psssttttt…wanna know the secret to creating a gorgeous table? It’s all about textures and layers.

I could tell you, but I’d rather SHOW you. In 8 super-simple steps!

Let’s pretend this runner is ironed, shall we? 😉 It won’t matter in just a minute anyway.

You can also use a pretty piece of fabric like I did on our 4th of July table.

Keep the centerpiece low for easy conversation.

Make sure your “anchor” pieces have varying heights.

I like mine to have texture. It gives the china a nice backdrop.

I had to show you a closer view of the salad plates. They are my absolute favorites for fall. Can you believe I found them at Salvation Army?

I like to add a piece of fruit or something from nature (shells, faux tiny bird nest, etc.) to give dimension, visual interest and in this case a POP of color!

Instead of laying the flatware on the napkins, I mixed it up by placing the napkins under the salad plate and tying the flatware with a satin ribbon. Again…it’s all about texture.

Place cards add that little bit of personalization. They don’t have to be fancy…have fun with them!

Don’t forget the votive candles. They are the most inexpensive element, yet have the biggest impact on a table.
