an angel in the Target parking lot
You’ve heard the phrase The Lord works in mysterious ways, right?
Well, sometimes I think they aren’t all that mysterious if we just open our eyes to His blessings.
Two weeks ago on a rainy Monday morning, I was picking up a few things at Target. As I was putting my cart back in the cart corral, a woman who was parked next to it took a noticeable double-take when she saw me. Being fairly new to the area, it is a rare occurrence (never) to run into anyone that I know. Neverthelesss, I smiled at her awkwardly.
She said, “You write a blog, don’t you?”
To which I replied, “yes” (mildly stunned).
“It’s Maple & Magnolia, right?” she asked.
Totally stunned, I answered “yes” again.
Let’s hit the pause button for just a moment, so I can give you a little context.
We moved here in May and in the seven months we’ve been here I’ve totally been in my own little “bubble.” Getting our house and cottage set up, refinishing furniture, and completing boatloads of projects. Once the dust settled and things were ticking along smoothly (hubby in his job, kids in school) I’ve been sort of sad that I don’t have any local friends. I’m blessed with lots of wonderful friends. Unfortunately, none of them live close by.
Lately I’ve been trying to be very faithful in spending quiet time with the Lord. And really listening to Him. But I was seeking more. More structured and deep. A bible study. I’d been checking our church website for the bible studies that were starting in January. But they hadn’t updated the page yet.
Hit the play button…
Back in the Target parking lot:
Carol and I start chatting and totally hit it off (in the cold, drizzling rain I might add). She has a blog where she shares vintage and non-vintage furniture and treasures that she updates and refinishes (sound familiar?). We are chit-chatting away and out of the blue she says, “Do you do bible studies?”
I said that I’d been searching for one.
She invited me to BSF (which I’ve always wanted to try) where she is a group leader. I’ve gone for the past two Wednesdays and love it. I’ve met so many sweet ladies.
Now I suppose you could chalk this meeting up to coincidence. I know better.
I drove away smiling at the fact that God loves me so much that he would send an angel into my path in the Target parking lot of all places.
Of course, knowing that I refer to Target as my “happy place” it makes perfect sense!
This verse kept coming to me as I drove away…
You know I don’t normally share really personal stuff here…but this was too good not to share.
Happy Sunday to you!
